Our Japanese Garden, Part 2 / Japanilainen Puutarhamme, Osa 2

One of last summer's most important projects has been to extend our Japanese garden and to finally get a place for Kelly's urn.  The idea of creating a Japanese garden was born many years ago but we really never seemed to have the time for getting it started.  Perhaps we feared for not making things right.  When Pinja died we knew we just had to do it and we were surprised how easily the garden took shape.  It's built by true love for a small and furry friend, which meant so incredibly much - especially to me.

Kelly's part started off as well as Pinja's and we just let our ideas come to life.  Pasi did a great job carrying stones from the woods.  Together we put the stones and the Japanese statues we had bought earlier into place.  We buried Kelly's urn, covered the ground with white and red decorative garden stones and seized the moment.  Our garden was ready and we were very pleased with what we had created.  Kelly had got her own place to rest, close to Pinja, and it felt good.  Now we just hope there will be many years before our Japanese garden will have its next extension...

Rauhan paikka.

Yksi viime kesän tärkeimmistä projekteista oli meidän japanilaisen puutarhan laajennus ja saada lopultakin paikka Kellyn uurnalle.  Ajatus japanilaisesta puutarhasta oli synytynyt jo vuosia sitten mutta meillä ei koskaan tuntunut olevan aikaa projektin aloittamiseen.  Ehkä pelkäsimme, ettei sitä tulisi oikeanlaista.  Kun Pinja kuoli, tiesimme, että meidän pitää tehdä se ja yllätykseksemme huomasimme miten helposti se tapahtui.  Se rakennettiin aidolla rakkaudella pienelle karvaiselle ystävälle, joka merkitsi uskomattoman paljon - erityisesti minulle.

Kellyn osa, kuten Pinjankin, alkoi yhtä hyvin ja annoimme vain ideoiden tulla todeksi.  Pasi teki suuren työn kantaessaan kivet metsästä.  Yhdessä asettelimme kivet ja aikaisemmin ostamamme japanilaiset patsaat paikoilleen.  Hautasimme Kellyn uurnan, peitimme maan valkosilla ja punaisilla koristekivillä ja pysähdyimme hetkeksi.  Puutarhamme oli valmis ja olimme erittäin tyytyväisiä siihen mitä olimme luoneet.  Kelly oli saanut oman leposijansa, lähellä Pinjaa, ja se tuntui hyvältä.  Nyt toivomme, että vie vielä monia vuosia ennen kuin japanilaista puutarha taas täytyy laajentaa...

Beautiful October / Kaunis lokakuu

Last Sunday weather was just incredible.  Sunny and warm - and I almost had to check my calendar twice that we're actually in the month of October!  For many years I have planned to take pictures of our dogs when nature is at its most colourful condition, but usually I have ended up with no pictures at all.  I haven't had the time or the weather has not been the very best, usually it's been too rainy.  Finally when the circumstances have been right, the leaves are long gone and the trees are standing naked just waiting for getting dressed by white frost and snow.  This year I decided to turn my earlier so bad luck into something more successful and I grabbed my camera, Pasi and our dogs for a lovely walk in the woods for a few hours...

Värejä, iloa ja uskollisia ystäviä.

Viime sunnuntaina ilma oli aivan uskomaton.  Aurinkoista ja lämmintä - ja, minun piti melkein katsoa kahdesti kalenteria, että ollaan tosiaan lokakuussa!  Olen monta vuotta suunnitellut ottavani kuvia koiristamme kun luonto on värikkäimmillään, mutta yleensä se on jäänyt tekemättä.  Minulla ei ole ollut aikaa tai sää ei ole ollut suotuisa, yleensä se on ollut liian sateista.  Sitten kun olosuhteet ovat olleet muuten hyvät, lehdet ovat jo poissa ja puut alastomina odottamassa lumipeitettä.  Tänä vuonna päätin kääntää aikaisemman huonon tuurini eli otin kamerani, Pasin ja koiramme ja lähdimme ihanalle muutaman tunnin metsälenkille... 

05.10. The Tuulos Group Show, Hämeenlinna

Today Della attended The Group Show in Hämeenlinna.  It was held at the Shopping Center of Tuulos and its underground car park.  It was not the most ideal place to be for Della.  The environment was loud and noisy and Della was seized with panic.  Della crawled like a black worm over the concrete floor and I thought this is it...  I put Della in our fabric cage for a while and Della relaxed quite alright.  The judge for the day was Helin Kasuk-Tenson from Estonia.  Her evaluation of Della was VG (Very Good).

"Good type and feminine.  A bit round scull.  Good ears.  Good measurements.  Enough angulations in front and back.  Moves well.  Needs a lot more self-confidence and therefore VG (Very Good)."

Thank you to Janita, Sidi and Mini for a really nice show trip together.  Your company really helped Della out.

Della ystävien kanssa syksyä nauttimassa.

Tänään Della osallistui Hämeenlinnan Ryhmänäyttelyyn Kauppakeskus Tuulosen parkkihallissa.  Paikka ei ollut paras mahdollinen Dellalle.  Ympäristö oli kaikuva ja kova ääninen ja Della panikoi.  Della ryömi kuin musta mato betonilattian päällä ja ajattelin, se on tässä...  Laitoin Dellan kangashäkkiin vähäksi aikaa ja Della rentoutui aika kivasti.  Päivän tuomari oli Helin Kasuk-Tenson Virosta.  Hänen arvostelu Dellasta oli EH (Erittäin Hyvä).

"Hyvä tyyppi ja sukupuolileima.  Hieman pyöreä kallo.  Hyvät korvat.  Hyvät mittasuhteet.  Riittävät etu- ja takakulmaukset.  Liikkuu hyvällä askeeleella.  Tarvitsee paljon enemmän itsevarmuutta, siksi EH (Erittäin Hyvä)."

Kiitos Janitalle, Sidille ja Minille mukavasta näyttelyreissusta.  Teidän seura auttoi Dellaa todella paljon.

22.09. WeCA, Noormarkku

The season's last competitions did not get us back up in the air floating on clouds but we're quite satisfied after all.  The individual goals we had set in the early spring this year were reached with flying colours.  Pasi turned Taika into a Finnish Jumping Champion and is so close to get the Agility Champion's title as well.  Just one more clean run and a win...

Della's season is so much beyond my expectations.  Last year I had a dog that feared the see-saw and chose to pass the obstacles instead of jumping them.  Today Della loves performing the see-saw and the only problem, speaking of obstacles, is the turning around the left wing...  There's our homework till next season.  The performance on the A-frame's contact down is also to be improved and become more certain.

My goal this year with Della was to perform at least one clean run in Class 1.  Today we're competing in Class 2 with a clean run and a win already achieved.  It's so much more than I had expected of us.  A funny thing I've noticed is that I, as a handler, have become greedy.  Success creates a kind of hunger for more and that's why it's good to take a step aside and think.  Della and I are not ready yet to take the final step up to Class 3.  We still have a lot of things to develop and improve, among other things our co-operation, my techniques in handling, how to get a good flow, speed and to have confidence in what we do.  Training is one thing but without having fun at the same time the outcome won't do any good.

Kauden viimeiset kisat eivät nostaneet meitä takaisin pilviin mutta olemme kuitenkin aika tyytyväisiä.  Alkukeväällä asetetut yksilölliset tavoitteet ovat onnistuneet aivan loistavasti.  Taikasta tuli Suomen hyppyvalio ja agilityvaliotittelikään ei ole kaukana.  Se on vain siitä yhdestä tuloksesta kiinni...

Dellan kisakausi on mennyt niin paljon paremmin kuin odotin.  Viime vuonna minulla oli koira joka pelkäsi keinua ja hyppäämisen sijaan ohitti esteitä.  Tänään Della rakastaa keinulle menoa ja meidän tällä hetkellä ainoana ongelmana esteiden suorittamisessa on vasemman siivekkeen kiertäminen...  Siinä on meille kotitehtävä ensi kaudeksi.  A-esteen alastuloa 2-on-2-off-menetelmällä täytyy myös parantaa ja saada entistä varmemmaksi.

Tänä vuonna tavotteeni Dellan kanssa oli saada ainakin yksi 0-tulos 1-luokassa.  Tällä hetkellä ollaan kisaamassa 2-luokassa ja kilpailukirjasta löytyy jo yksi 0-voittotulos hyppäridadalta.  Se on niin paljon enemmän kuin olin odottanut meistä.  Olen huomannut hauskan asian, ohjaajana olen tullut ahneeksi.  Nälkä kasvaa selvästi onnistumisesta ja sen takia on ihan hyvä vetää henkeä ja miettiä hetken.  Della ja minä, kisaparina, emme ole vielä valmiina agilityn kuninkuusluokkaan.  Meillä on vielä asioita kesken, mm meidän täytyy kehittää ja parantaa yhteistyötämme radalla, minun ohjaustekniikkaa ja miten saada hyvää joustavuutta, vauhtia ja itseluottamusta.  Treenaaminen on tietysti tärkeää mutta ilman hauskuutta siitä ei tule yhtään mitään.

14.-15.09. RKS, Rauma

When floating on clouds, bring a parachute - just in case...  We took a real drop from our clouds last weekend while participating in the agility competitions arranged by RKS in Rauma.  Pasi and Taika competed on Saturday, two starts and no success.  I continued on Sunday with Della with no better outcome than two disqualifications.  Della's first course is still a bit of a mystery to me, because Della went back to old habits and refused turning around the obstacle's left wing and I had to leave it there.  The right wing usually works without any problem.  On the other course Della took a very bad fall and I just played her through the rest of the track leaving pleasant memories.  It just wasn't our team's weekend this time though the courses were nice and everything was very well organized.  Now we just have to put it behind us and look forward to new challenges.  The main thing is to have great fun with our lovely dogs and enjoy doing agility with them.

Vauhtia, iloa ja vaarallisia tilanteita...

Kun leijut pilvissä, ota laskuvarjo mukaan - varmuuden vuoksi...  Me teimme todellisen pudotuksen pilvistä viime viikonloppuna Rauman agilitykisoissa.  Pasi ja Taika kisasivat lauantaina, kaksi starttia ilman menestystä.  Minä jatkoin sunnuntaina Dellan kanssa yhtä huonolla tuloksella eli kahdella hylyllä.  Dellan ensimmäinen rata on minulle edelleen mysteeri koska Della palasi vanhoihin tapoihin ja kieltäytyi tekemästä takakiertoa vasemmalta ja jätimme leikin sikseen.  Takakierto oikealta yleensä sujuu ilman ongelmia.  Toisella radalla Della kompastui hypyllä pahasti ja vein Dellan vain leikiten radan loppuun antaen hyviä muistoja.  Ei vain ollut meidän tiimin viikonloppu tällä kertaa vaikka radat olivat mukavia ja kisat hyvin järjestetyt.  Nyt täytyy vain unohtaa kaikki ja katsoa eteenpäin kohti uusia haasteita.  Tärkeintä on pitää todella hauskaa meidän ihanien koirien kanssa ja nauttia agilitystä.

16.09. Happy Birthday Taika!

Puppies are not to be bought as gifts but I have to confess, Taika is a Christmas present.  I got her for Pasi a month and a half before Christmas Eve in November 2005.  Today it's eight years since Taika or as it says in her pedigree - Camicats Twister - was born and it's just incredible how time flies.  It still feels like yesterday when we glanced at the first pictures of a newborn Taika and her siblings.

Taika noin puolivuotiaana ja Taika tänään, kahdeksan vuotta vanha.

Pentua ei saisi ostaa lahjaksi, mutta minun täytyy tunnustaa, Taika on joululahja.  Ostin sen Pasille puolitoista kuukautta ennen Jouluaattoa marraskuussa 2005.  Tänään on kulunut kahdeksan vuotta siitä kun Taika tai niin kuin lukee sen sukutaulussa - Camicats Twister - syntyi ja on vain uskomatonta miten aika lentää.  Tuntuu vieläkin kuin se olisi ollut vasta eilen kun vilkaisimme ensimmäisiä kuvia juuri syntyneestä Taikasta ja sen sisaruksista.

 

Onneksi olkoon Taika,

meidän ihana rämäpää! 

15.09. Happy Birthday Della!

Four years ago I got a message on my cell phone.  It came from breeder Sinikka Sjöqvist and it said; "I've got puppies".  My immediate response was if there were any tricoloured bitches?  Sinikka answered; "come and see for yourself..!".  Eight weeks later Della entered our house...

Della kahdeksan viikkoa vanha 2009 ja Della neljä vuotta 2013.

Neljä vuotta sitten sain tekstiviestin.  Se tuli kasvattajalta Sinikka Sjöqvistiltä; "minulla on pentuja".  Kysyin heti oliko trikkinarttupentuja?  Sinikka vastasi; "tule katsomaan..!".  Kahdeksan viikkoa myöhemmin Della tuli taloon...

 

Onneksi olkoon pieni ihmeeni Della!
