Time flies! / Aika rientää!

It's now two weeks since we got our adorable puppy home and Kuura has kept us busy in many ways.  Della is the leader of the gang, there's no doubt about that.  Taika fled Kuura for about three days and did not at all like the new situation with a newcomer in the house.  Kuura's entry probably reminded Taika too much about the day Della came to us four years ago.  Being too kind Taika was on her back with an only eight weeks old Della on the top of her chest.  We could just hope Kuura would not do the same...

Fortunately Taika came to her senses and accepted that we have "a situation" in the house that won't go away.  Taika also discovered that teeth can be used in so many more ways than just for eating and has taught Kuura a few times to pay better respect for the older members in her new pack.  The good thing is that Kuura listens - at least sometimes - and we have a puppy, which has been settled very well in her new home.

Kuura is a very tough girl and the first few days she tested her limits quite a lot.  Kuura is also very stubborn and determined and she has not been afraid of using her sharp milk-teeth when not getting things going her way.  By training and showing our puppy a better alternative Kuura's rowdy behaviour has changed a lot during the last few days.  To praise the good things she does and by ignoring a not wanted behaviour Kuura has made great progress.  She's not fighting us anymore and she's letting go of things while telling her "no".  Kuura is still a lovely rascal - all puppies are and should be - and she's everything we've dreamt of.  Being a very active puppy we have started to getting Kuura used to the clicker.  I have used clicker training on Della and I've been very satisfied with the outcome.  Kuura is willing to learn and it's fun to play with her.  It's also easy to reward her because Kuura likes toys as much as treats.  The training moments are very short and always playful.

Kuura has got quite used to travelling by car, because we're training agility and obedience with Taika and Della thrice a week and we've brought Kuura with us.  This has also meant that Kuura has had the opportunity to meet with lots of different people and dogs of different breeds and of various ages.  When attending last Tuesday's obedience class in Pori the whole class got crazy, both dogs and handlers.  Kuura's just such a charming package and she turned everybody's head.

Due to Christmas and long holidays Kuura got her first vaccination a bit in advance at the clinic in Rauma last Friday.  Kuura came off with flying colours.  She did not even react when our veterinary Anna gave her the shot.  It's great to have a dog like Kuura, strong-minded but at the same time very cuddly and cute.

Kuura's weight today is 3 300 g and her height 28 cm.

Meidän rakas pieni riiviö.

 

Kaksi viikkoa on nyt kulunut ihanan pentumme Kuuran tulosta ja se on pitänyt meidät kiireisenä monin tavoin.  Della on lauman johtaja, siitä ei ole epäselvyyttä.  Taika pakeni Kuuraa noin kolme päivää eikä pitänyt tulokkaasta ja uudesta tilanteesta talossa.  Kuuran tulo taisi muistuttaa Taikaa liikaa Dellan saapumisesta neljä vuotta sitten.  Taika kun on liian kiltti niin se oli heti selällään ja kahdeksan viikkoinen Della seisoi sen rinnan päällä.  Voimme vain toivoa, ettei Kuura tekisi samoin...

No onneksi Taika tuli järkiinsä ja hyväksyi uuden pysyvän "tilanteen" talossa.  Taika ymmärsi myös yllätäin, että hampaita voi käyttää monella muullakin tavoin kun vain ruoan syömiseen ja se on opettanut muutaman kerran Kuuraa osoittamaan kunnioitusta lauman vanhempia kohtaan.  Hyvä asia on, että Kuura myös kuuntelee - ainakin silloin tällöin - ja meillä on pentu joka on sopeutunut erittäin hyvin uuteen kotiin.

Kuura on kova tyttö ja ensimmäisien päivien aikana se testasi rajojaan aika paljon.  Kuura on myös varsin itsepäinen ja päättäväinen eikä se ole pelännyt käyttää teräviä maitohampaitaan saadakseen tahtoaan läpi.  Treenaamalla ja antamalla pennulle parempia vaihtoehtoja Kuuran villi käytös on muuttunut paljon viimeisten päivien aikana.  Kehumalla oikeaa käytöstä ja jättämällä huono käytös huomiotta Kuura on edistynyt koko ajan.  Kuura ei enää taistele vastaan ja se ymmärtää kun sitä kieltää sanomalla "ei".  Kuura on silti vielä ihanan villi - kaikki pennut ovat ja kuuluu olla - ja se on kaikkea mitä toivomme.  Koska Kuura on erittäin innokas pentu olemme alkaneet totuttaa sitä naksuttimella.  Olen käyttänyt naksutinta treenatessa Dellaa ja olen erittäin tyytyväinen lopputulokseen.  Kuura on halukas oppimaan ja sen kanssa on hauska puuhata.  Kuura on myös helppo palkita koska se pitää yhtä paljon niin namuista kuin leluista.  Treenihetket ovat lyhyitä ja aina hauskoja.

Kuura on jo varsin tottunut matkustamaan autossa, koska treenaamme agilityä ja tokoa Taikan ja Dellan kanssa kolmesti viikossa, Kuura on tietysti mukana.  Tämä on myös antanut Kuuralle mahdollisuuden tavata paljon eri ihmisiä, eri rotuisia ja ikäisiä koiria.  Kuura oli ensimmäistä kertaa viime tiistaina mukana tottelevaisuusryhmän treeneissä Porissa ja ryhmä sekosi täysin, niin koirat kuin ohjaajatkin.  Kuura on varsin hurmaava pakkaus ja saa päät kääntymään.

Joulun pyhien ja pitkän vapaan takia Kuura sai ensimmäisen rokotuksensa viime perjantaina hiukan etuajassa eläinlääkäriasemalla Raumalla.  Kuura läpäisi eläinlääkärikäynnin loistavasti.  Kuura ei edes reagoinut kun eläinlääkärimme Anna antoi rokotteen.  On aivan uskomatonta omistaa Kuuran kaltaisen koira, hyvä vahvapäinen mutta samalla erittäin ihana ja hellyydenkipeä.

Kuuran paino on tänään 3 300 g ja säkäkorkeus 28 cm.  

Welcome home! / Tervetuloa kotiin!

Finally we have got Kuura home.  Yesterday a wait for eight weeks came to an end and our lives are everything but the same old routines anymore.  Kuura is sweet, a bit rascally and filled with energy and a very definite attitude.  Shortly, Kuura is just lovely!

The first night in her new home went by without problems and Kuura was sound asleep in her new bed, built by Pasi, the whole night through.  Kuura has eaten with great relish and played with her new friend, Della, in the snow today.  Taika is still a bit reserved but at the same time very interested in this special grey whirlwind named Kuura.

A very warm and hearty thank you goes to Kuura's breeder, Eeva Lehtikangas, for letting us become the owners of this so precious little girl.

Vihdoinkin olemme saaneet Kuuran kotiin.  Eilen kahdeksan viikon odotus päättyi ja elämämme on kaikkea muuta kuin entisellään.  Kuura on ihana, pikkaisen vallaton ja täynnä energiaa sekä peräänantamaton luonne.  Lyhyesti, Kuura on aivan mahtava!

Ensimmäinen yö uudessa kodissa meni ilman ongelmia ja Kuura nukkui hyvin koko yön uudessa Pasin tekemässä petissä.  Kuura on syönyt hyvällä ruokahalulla ja leikkinyt uuden ystävänsä Dellan kanssa lumella tänään.  Taika on vielä vähän varautunut, mutta samalla hyvin kiinnostunut tästä erityisestä harmaasta pyörremyrskystä nimeltään Kuura.

Erittäin lämmin ja sydämellinen kiitos tästä Kuuran kasvattajalle, Eeva Lehtikangas, että saimme tämän jo niin rakkaan tytön.  

Dressed for success

Last summer when we were competing during Midsummer in Tuorla, I caught sight of HelsiTar's collection of soft shell coats for dogs.  They just looked great.  Of course, I couldn't resist ordering a couple though it felt a bit funny being in June and far away from rainy autumn days and winter cold.  Today I'm pleased I made my decision back then.

I had Tarja to take the measures of our dogs to get their outfits tailor made.  Besides having them made in our team's colours, I also asked Tarja to embroider the name of the dog and the name of our team on each side of them.  I am very satisfied with the outcome, so are Della and Taika.  Now we're ready for any weather.  The coats will also keep our dogs warm after training.

Valmiina lähtöön.

Viime kesänä kun olimme Juhannuskisoissa Tuorlassa, näin HelsiTarin kokoelman soft shell takkeja koirille.  Ne näyttivät upeilta.  En tietenkään voinut vastusta niitä ja tilasin parin, vaikka tuntui vähän hassulta tehdä se keskellä kesää kun syksyn sateet ja talven kylmyys oli vielä kaukana edessä.  Nyt olen tyytyväinen, että tein päätöksen silloin.

Tarja otti koirista mitat räätälöityjä takkeja varten.  Sen lisäksi, että ne ovat tiimimme väreissä, pyysin Tarjaa vielä brodeeraamaan niihin tiimimme sekä koiriemme nimet.  Olen todella tyytyväinen lopputulokseen, niin ovat Della ja Taikakin.  Nyt ollaan valmiina kaikenlaisiin säihin.  Takit pitävät koirat lämpiminä myös treenien jälkeen.

Girl Power / Tyttöenergiaa

The day before yesterday we went to see Kuura again and - wow!  Our precious little princess has really grown!  After having been the smallest one in the litter of pups, Kuura is now the biggest.  Eeva, the breeder, also told us that our girl is everything but calm.  Kuura is girl power!  Among other things Kuura was the first one to escape through the gate to the nursery.  Kuura is a very curious little lady and examines every corner of the house when she gets a chance.  Shoelaces and shoes are very interesting so it's just to expect that some of our team's shoes will get redesigned when Kuura enters the home of the Hurrila gang.  My black pair of Swedish wooden clogs has got quite an interesting look after a puppy named Pinja took care of them over ten years ago.  Time will show what Kuura is going to reshape or just taste...

Viisi viikkoinen sinisilmäinen söpöliini. 

Kävimme taas katsomassa Kuuraa toissapäivänä ja - vautsi! - miten meidän ihana pieni prinsessa oli kasvanut!  Alkuun pienin pentu Kuura on nyt isoin.  Kasvattaja Eeva kertoi myös, että Kuura on kaikkea paitsi rauhallinen.  Kuurassa on tyttöenergiaa!  Kuura oli muun muassa ensimmäinen pennuista, joka karkasi pentuhuoneen portin läpi.  Kuura on todella utelias pieni leidi ja tutkii talon jokaisen sopen aina kun sillä on mahdollisuus.  Kengännauhat ja kengät ovat todella mielenkiintoisia ja voimme odottaa, että jotkut meidän tiimin kengistä voivat saada muodonmuutoksia Kuuralta kun neiti muuttaa Hurrilaan.  Minun ruotsalaiset mustat puukenkäni saivat yli kymmenen vuotta sitten aika mielenkiintoisen muotoilun kun pentu nimeltään Pinja hoiti niitä.  Aika tulee näyttämään mitä muotoja Kuura keksii...

Lots of people are going crazy about Halloween and partying this weekend.  We're going nuts about Kuura.

Kuura is a lovely blue merle and the only bitch in a litter of five puppies born on October 8th.  If everything turns out as planned, Kuura is becoming a brand-new member of our team within about five weeks from now.

Today we got to hold Kuura for the first time and this sweet little creature just melted our hearts.  A warm thank you to Kuura's lovely breeder, Eeva, for a wonderful afternoon.  We really appreciate that Kuura is going to be ours.  We're just like two children before Christmas at the moment and we're counting the days...

Monet ihmiset hullaantuvat Halloweenistä ja juhlivat tänä vikonloppuna.  Me hullaannuimme Kuurasta.

Kuura on ihana blue merle ja ainoa narttu lokakuun 8. syntyneessä viiden pennun pentueessa.  Jos kaikki menee suunnitellusti, tulee Kuurasta meidän tiimin uusi uunituore jäsen noin viiden viikon kuluttua.

Tänään saimme pitää Kuuraa ensimmäistä kertaa sylissä ja tämä pieni olento valloitti heti sydämemme.  Lämmin kiitos ihanalle Eevalle, Kuuran kasvattajalle, todella mukavasta iltapäivästä.  Ollaan todella kiitollisia, että Kuura tulee meille.  Tällä hetkellä ollaan kuin kaksi lasta ennen joulua ja lasketaan päiviä...

25.10. Hysterectomy / Kohdunpoisto

Yesterday Pasi brought Taika to Raumo for a planned hysterectomy.  Everything went very well.  It's amazing how quickly animals recover from operations.  Taika already ate with good appetite in the evening and was sound asleep all night.  Today you almost forgot that Taika had a sterilization the day before.  The only thing that reminds us of it is a very neat mark on her belly.  A big thank you to our great veterinary Anna and her lovely staff.  You're the best!

Pieni potilas ja sen arpi.

Pasi vei Taikan eilen Raumalle kohdunpoistoon, jota olimme suunnitelleet jo pitkään.  Kaikki meni todella  hyvin.  On hämmästyttävää miten nopeasti eläimet toipuvat leikkauksista.  Taika söi hyvällä ruokahalulla jo samana iltana ja nukkui hyvin koko yön.  Tänään unohdimme melkein, että Taika oli sterilisoitu eilen.  Ainoa asia joka muistuttaa siitä on todella siisti jälki Taikan vatsassa.  Isot kiitokset taitavalle eläinlääkärille Annalle ja hänen ihanalle henkilökunnalle.  Olette parhaat!
