Solar eclipse / Auringonpimennys

This is a non-dog-related thing, but I just have to put it to our blog.  We have experienced such an extraordinary week with spectacular natural phenomenons.  First we got to admire the marvellous light show put up by the northern lights.  Seldom we get to see them here where we live, it's a bit too south.  I just love this phenomenon of green light waves moving around high in the night sky.  It's magic.  Unfortunately I have no pictures of it.  So when we were lucky to experience an almost total solar eclipse on Friday, I decided to make an attempt to get a memorable picture of it.  Below you can see the result taken through a welding glass.  I must say I am quite satisfied.

Tämä ei ole koira-aiheinen juttu, mutta minun täytyy vain laittaa se blogiimme.  Olemme kokeneet niin erikoisen viikon luonnon ilmiöitä.  Ensin me ihailimme revontulien mahtavaa valoesitystä.  Näemme niitä täällä harvoin, asumme vähän liian etelässä.  Rakastan todella näitä vihreän valon ilmiöitä, jotka liikkuvat korkealla yötaivaalla.  Se on taikuutta.  Valitettavasti minulla ei ole niistä kuvia.  Koska meillä oli myös onni kokea melkein täydellinen auringonpimennys perjantaina, päätin yrittää ikuista sen kameralla.  Yllä näette lopputuloksen siitä hitsauslasin läpi.  Täytyy sanoa, että olen aika tyytyväinen.

14.-15.03. ATT, Lieto

We enjoyed a lovely touch of spring last weekend.  The sun was shining from a clear blue sky, there were no need for gloves or winter caps during daytime and we also caught sight of the very first returning swans.

A great weekend for cleaning the house, washing the car and gardening... - or competing in agility!  Our team left the vacuum cleaner and garden tools at home and went to Turku for two days.  Pasi and Taika competed on Saturday and Della and I on Sunday.

We had the joy to run on courses designed by Anne Savioja, who is one of my favourite judges.  You don't just pick a clean run from her tracks, you really have to work every obstacle from start to finish.  You don't get anything for free and that's the way I like it.

Though our results were not the shiniest ones in numbers, I think we did quite well.  Pasi struggled with a dog that just won't sit and wait in the start and jumps the contacts and I with a dog that has to be kept in a happy and relaxed mood.  We had no clean runs this time but a lot of minor personal victories and a lot of fun.

Nautimme ihanista kevään merkeistä viime viikonloppuna.  Aurinko paistoi kirkkaan siniseltä taivaalta, eikä päivällä tarvittu hanskoja tai talvilakkia ja näimme myös ensimmäiset palaavat joutsenet.

Loistava viikonloppu talon siivoamiseen, auton pesuun tai pihatöihin... - tai kisaamiseen agilityssä.  Tiimimme jätti imurin ja puutarhatyökalut kotiin ja lähti Turkuun kahdeksi päiväksi.  Pasi ja Taika kisasivat lauantaina ja minä ja Della sunnuntaina.

Nautimme ja juoksimme Anne Saviojan suunnittelemilla radoilla, hän on yksi minun suosikki tuomareista.  Et voi vain mennä hakemaan nollia Annen radoilta, sinun todella täytyy tehdä töitä jokaiselle esteelle lähdöstä maaliin.  Et saa mitään ilmaiseksi ja todella pidän siitä.

Vaikka tuloksemme eivät olleet parhaimpia, teimme mielestäni hyvää työtä.  Pasi taisteli koiran kanssa, joka ei odota lähdössä eikä ota kontakteja ja minä koiran kanssa, joka täytyy pitää hyvällä mielellä ja rentona.  Meillä ei ollut puhtaita ratoja tällä kertaa, mutta paljon pieniä henkilökohtaisia voittoja sekä todella hauskaa.

Still going strong

Again I have a reason to be proud of our dogs.  This time it's Taika's turn to step forward.  Taika competed quite well last year and was awarded the title "Agility Dog 2014 Class Small" at our dog club's annual meeting.  A few weeks before Taika had received third prize for agility shelties 2014 in Western Finland.  The prize was declared and handed over at the annual meeting of the Finnish Shetland Sheepdog Association, Western Division.

Taika is a marvellous dog that loves agility.  She's fast but not the easiest one to make a clean run with.  Taika doesn't wait in the start and the contacts are usually jumped and not touched...  This is why Taika has achieved the Finnish Jumping Champion's title (FI AVA-H) and not yet the title for Agility Champion.  Pasi really hopes to be able to pinch the last certificate this year to complete Taika's agility career by also making her an agility champion.  It would really be a dream come true.

Yhdeksän vuotta vanha ja vielä kovassa iskussa.

Minulla on taas syytä olla ylpeä koiristamme.  Tällä kertaa on Taikan vuoro.  Taika kisasi aika hyvin viime vuonna ja palkittiin "Vuoden Agilitykoira 2014 Mini-palkinnolla"  seuramme vuosikokouksessa.  Muutama viikko aiemmin Taika otti vastaan kolmannen palkinnon Lännen Sheltit ry:n vuoden agilitykoirien kisassa.  Palkinto julkaistiin ja jaettiin Lännen Sheltit ry:n vuosikokouksessa.

Taika on mahtava koira joka rakastaa agilitya.  Taika on nopea, mutta ei helpoin saada tekemään nolla rataa.  Taika ei odota lähdössä ja kontaktit yleensä hypätään yli...  Tämän takia Taika on saavuttanut Suomen hyppyvalion arvon (FI AVA-H), mutta ei vielä Suomen agilityvalion arvoa.  Pasi todella toivoo, että nappaisi sen viimeisen sertifikaatin tänä vuonna ja Taika valioituisi myös agilityssä.  Se olisi unelmien täyttymys.
