Brie 5 months / Brie 5 kuukautta

Another month has passed and it's been a great 30 days of puppy love!  Brie is still charming the world around her and nowadays my black madcap goes by the nickname "cheese dog" by many of our friends.  Brie has really made a brand of herself.

Brie has gained a great deal of new experiences during the last month.  She's been seen together with us at a couple of agility competitions, she's taken another puppy class and she's been travelling back and forth with us to the Åland Islands by ferry twice.  Being on the ferry for five hours did not cause any problems.  I took Brie with me to explore the surroundings outside our cabin and all the time we met with someone that just had to cuddle her a bit.  It's so easy to move around with her.  Brie even got a warm welcome entering the ferry's bar though she's clearly underage.  Brie just melts hearts everywhere she goes.

Brie's height at the age of five months is 34 cm and it's quite sure I am going to get my first medium agility dog.

Taas on kuukausi vierähtänyt ja on ollut ihanat 30 päivää täynnä pennun touhuja.  Brie hurmaa edelleen ympärillään olevaa maailmaa ja nykyään minun musta rasavilli tunnetaan ystäviemme kesken myös nimellä "juustokoira".  Brie on todella luonut brändin itsestään.

Brie on saanut paljon uusia kokemuksia viime kuukauden aikana.  Hän on käynyt kanssamme muutamissa agilitykisoissa, hän on osallistunut jo toiseen pentukoulutukseen ja matkustanut kahdesti kanssamme laivalla Ahvenanmaalle ja takaisin.  Viisi tuntinen laivamatka ei ollut mikään ongelma.  Otin Brien mukaan hytin ulkopuolellekin tutustumaan ja koko ajan tapasimme ihmisiä, jotka halusivat  vähän silitellä häntä.  Hänen kanssa on helppo liikkua ympäriinsä.  Brie sai jopa lämpimän vastaanoton laivan baarissa vaikka on selvästi alaikäinen.  Brie sulattaa sydämiä kaikkialla minne menee.  

Brien säkä viiden kuukauden iässä on 34 cm ja se vaikuttaa siltä, että olen saamassa ensimmäisen agility medikoiran.

Saint Smeagol alias Klonkku

We've had an absolutely great holiday and a lovely start of the upcoming autumn.  If the gone summer was mostly showers of rain and cold temperatures, we got to enjoy three weeks with nothing but sunshine and clear blue skies.  The nice temperatures also made us terribly lazy.

Among other things we've enjoyed having my family from Sweden here for a long weekend.  We've been to the Yyteri Dog Beach and to the Åland Islands twice and we got to see the trotter, Maroon Piper, we once owned again.

We have last seen Maroon Piper, or Helmi, in December 2012 when a tragic hind leg problem put an end to her career before it even had started.  It was a hard and sad decision to give up a dream and a fine animal I had fallen in love with.  The good thing was that Helmi was going to enjoy the life of a retired trotter and together with the person she really trusted in, her groom Suvi.

The Helmi we got to meet with in Noormarkku this summer was in good shape and moving well.  Helmi also proudly showed us the reason for our visit, a filly called Klonkku.  Klonkku, or officially Saint Smeagol, was born on April, 30th and she just won our hearts.  Klonkku is a dark beauty with long legs and a wonderful temper.  

We wish you the best of luck with your young horse power project, Suvi, and thanks a lot for showing us around.  The place is just great!  We are already looking forward to meeting with the three of you soon again.

Maroon Piper - Don't Blink Twice

Meillä on ollut aivan mahtava loma ja ihana alku alkavalle syksylle.  Jos mennyt kesä olikin lähinnä sateinen ja kylmä, me saimme kolme viikkoa nauttia pelkästään auringon paisteesta ja sinisestä taivaasta.  Miellyttävä lämpö teki meistä myös äärettömän laiskoja.

Olemme muun muassa nauttineet Ruotsista tulleen perheeni kanssa pitkästä viikonlopusta.  Olemme käyneet Yyterin koirarannalla ja Ahvenanmaalla kahdesti, saimme myös mahdollisuuden tavata ravihevosen Maroon Piperin, jonka omistimme osittain aikaisemmin.  

Olimme viimeksi nähneet Helmin, alias Maroon Piper, joulukuussa 2012 jolloin ikävä takajalan ongelma pääti sen uran ennen kuin oli alkanutkaan.  Oli kova ja surullinen päätös antaa periksi unelmalle ja hienolle eläimelle johon olin rakastunut.  Hyvä asia on, että Helmi saa nauttia eläkeellä olevana ravurina yhdessä ihmisen kanssa, johon todella luottaa, Suviin.

Helmi, jonka tapasimme Noormarkussa tänä kesänä, on hyvässä kunnossa ja liikkuu hienosti, Helmi esitteli myös ylpeänä vierailumme syytä, tammavarsaa nimeltään Klonkku.  Klonkku tai virallisesti Saint Smeagol syntyi 30. huhtikuuta ja valloitti heti sydämemme.  Klonkku on pitkäjalkainen tumma kaunotar jolla on ihana luonne.

Toivomme onnea sinulle, Suvi, nuoren hevosen alun kanssa ja paljon kiitoksia, että näytit meille paikkoja.  Talli on aivan mahtava!  Odotamme jo innolla teidän kolmen jälleen näkemistä.

Happy Birthday, Taika!

Today it's Taika's tenth birthday, but we got to celebrate her a few days earlier when Taika gave us the best of gifts ever.  At agility competitions in the Åland Islands last Sunday Taika achieved her last certificate in agility, which finally made her a Finnish Agility Champion.  Taika was awarded the Jumping Champion's title last year but due to her well-known capability to jump the contacts, it has not been an easy thing to turn her into an Agility Champion too.

Congratulations to Pasi for great handling and a special hug to a marvellous dog!  At the age of ten Taika is stronger than ever.

Tänään on Taikan 10-vuotissyntymäpäivä, mutta saimme juhlia sitä muutama päivä aiemmin kun Taika antoi meille parhaan lahjan.  Viime sunnuntaina Ahvenanmaalla Taika saavutti agilitykisoissa viimeisen agilitysertifikaatin, mikä teki hänestä Suomen Agilityvalion.  Taika saavutti Hyppyvalion arvon viime vuonna, mutta hänen hyvin tunnettu kykynsä hypätä kontaktien yli on tehnyt agilityvalion saavuttamisesta vaikean.

Onnittelut Pasille hyvästä ohjauksesta ja erikoishalaukset mahtavalle koiralle!  Kymmenen vuotiaana Taika on vahvempi kuin koskaan.

Happy Birthday, Della!

There are not words enough to describe or explain how much Della means to me.  She's just everything.  Della makes me laugh, she makes me cry, she makes me struggle but at the very same time she gives me the important strength to go on.  Della has taught me that nothing comes for free and when you get a chance in life it's always worth taking.  The experiences you will gain when trying to achieve your goals are priceless.

Della has turned six years old today and I hope we're still going to have a long journey together in front of us.  It is probably going to be a bit bumpy at times too but together we are strong.  The outcome of an agility competition or an obedience trial is not the most important thing in the world.  The only thing that counts is being together with my best friend, Della.

En löydä tarpeeksi sanoja kertomaan miten paljon Della merkitsee minulle.  Se on vain kaikkeni.  Della saa minut nauramaan, se saa minut itkemään, se saa minut taistelemaan ja samaan aikaan se antaa minulle voimia jatkaa.  Della on opettanut minulle, ettei mikään tule ilmaiseksi ja kun saat mahdollisuuden elämässä, se kannattaa aina käyttää.  Kokemukset jotka saavutat tavoitellessasi päämäärää ovat korvaamattomia.

Della täytti tänään kuusi vuotta ja toivon, että meillä on vielä pitkä yhteinen matka edessä.  Se tulee luultavasti olemaan töyssyinen aina välillä, mutta yhdessä olemme vahvoja.  Tulos agility- tai tokokisoissa ei ole se tärkein asia maailmassa.  Ainoa asia mikä merkitsee on, että saan olla yhdessä parhaan ystäväni Dellan kanssa.

Speaking of weather, this summer has been really lousy.  Before August there had only been about four days with temperatures with heat wave label and the newspapers said something about the coldest summer since 1962..!

Good luck is usually not my thing but this time Pasi and I really hit the right time for our summer holiday and the whole team has enjoyed nothing else but sun and sun again.  A very bad summer has turned into a quite fantastic one just before reaching the finish line.

Being blessed with warm weather for a couple of weeks by now, we decided to go to Yyteri Beach with our pack the other day.  The beach is great.  It stretches for many kilometres, it got marvellous dunes and a special area meant for dogs and their owners.

None of our dogs really fancy water activities so it was great joy to find out that Della and Brie had come to new conclusions lately.  Both of them decided to get their paws wet almost at once when we reached the spot for where to put our blanket.  Then something really amazing happened.  Taika surprised us by walking straight into the water!  It must have been due to the hot weather, because for almost ten years Taika has never been keen on getting wet.  As Taika was enjoying her time with Della and Brie walking around in the shallow waters close to the beach, Kuura got brave too.  Pasi had to help her a bit by bribing her with dog treats, but it did not take many treats before Kuura joined the other three water beasts.

Brie does not fear water at all and still being the smallest one of the pack, she was almost forced to swim at times when she just ran around without control and jumped into a bit deeper waters by mistake.  After almost two hours of fun on the beach and a lot of new exciting experiences, we had four very tired but also happy dogs when we got home.  What a great day!

Vesipedot.

Sää on ollut tänä kesänä todella huono.  Ennen elokuuta oli ollut vain neljä hellepäivää ja sanomalehtien mukaan kesä on ollut kylmin sitten vuoden 1962..!

Minulla ei yleensä ole onnea, mutta tällä kertaa Pasille ja minulle osui kesäloma oikeaan aikaan ja koko tiimimme on nauttinut vain auringosta ja taas auringosta.  Todella huono kesä on kääntänyt hienoksi aivan loppusuoralla.

Olemme saaneet nauttia lämpimästä säästä nyt pari viikkoa, niinpä laumamme päätti lähteä Yyteriin.  Ranta on hieno.  Hiekkarantaa on kilometrejä, siellä on hienoja dyynejä ja aivan oma alue koirille ja niiden omistajille.

Yksikään koiristamme ei ole kovin innostunut vedestä, joten oli hienoa huomata, että Della ja Brie olivat tulleet toisiin ajatuksiin.  Molemmat päättivät kastella tassunsa miltei heti rannalle päästyämme.  Sitten tapahtui jotain ihmeellistä.  Taika yllätti meidät ja käveli suoraan veteen!  Syyn täytyy olla lämmin ilma sillä pian kymmenen vuotta vanha Taika ei ole koskaan halunnut kastua.  Taikan nauttiessa lähellä rantaa matalassa vedessä kävelystä Dellan ja Brien kanssa, Kuurakin rohkaistui.  Pasin piti auttaa sitä lahjomalla namupaloilla, mutta montaa namua ei tarvittu kunnes Kuurakin liittyi muiden vesipetojen seuraan.

Brie ei pelkää vettä ollenkaan ja ollessaan vielä pienin laumasta, joutui se välillä uimaan syvemmissä kohdissa juostessaan ja hyppiessään villisti ilman kontrollia.  Miltei kahden tunnin hauskanpidon ja uusien jännittävien kokemusten jälkeen rannalla meillä oli neljä väsynyttä ja onnellista koiraa kun tulimme kotiin.  Todella mukava päivä!

Another month has passed by and our lovely "cheese dog" is doing just great.  Brie has a really healthy appetite for both life and food!  A few days ago when we went to the vet for Brie's vaccination, the verdict was a dog with a splendid temper and no need for being fed larger portions.  Both the vet and I agreed on that having a puppy with a good appetite is a more pleasant problem than having a pup with a pore taste for food.

Being a dog with a high activity level, Brie also needs a lot of "fuel" and I am not afraid of letting her eat.  When she's not sleeping, Brie is always moving around.  Brie is not only a fast runner, she's also strong.  As mentioned before, Brie and Kuura are the very best of friends and they are almost constantly playing or wrestling.  The newest trick is Brie pulling Kuura over the floor by grabbing Kuura by the back of her head.  Kuura's weight is almost 9 kg!

Brie's lost a few of her teeth too and we're looking forward to a bit "softer" ones than the small effective razor blades she's been equipped with.  Thanks to Kuura, I think we have spared shoes, shoelaces and furniture.  Kuura is an amazing nanny, she puts up with Brie's ruthless attacks and never complains.  As a result of this absolutely superb childminder's service, Brie has not yet chewed on or eaten anything else than the provided bones of rawhide, vegetarian bones and dried beef pizzles.

Brie is such an amazing puppy.  She's got so many people that adore and love her.  I am so grateful for Brie.  She challenges me with her overwhelming energy every day and I like it.

Taas on kuukausi vierähtänyt ja meidän ihana "juustokoiramme" voi todella hyvin.  Briellä on todella hyvä ruokahalu niin elämään kuin ruokaan.  Muutama päivä sitten olimme Brien kanssa käymässä eläinlääkärissä rokotuksilla ja "tuomio" koiralle oli, että sillä on erinomainen luonne eikä se tarvitse isompia ruoka-annoksia.  Sekä eläinlääkäri että minä olimme samaa mieltä, että pentu jolla on hyvä ruokahalu on mielyttävämpi ongelma kuin pentu ilman sitä.

Koira joka on todella aktiivinen, kuten Brie, tarvitsee paljon energiaa enkä pelkää antaa sen syödä.  Kun Brie ei nuku, on se aina liikkeessä.  Brie ei ole vain nopea, se on myös vahva.  Brie ja Kuura ovat parhaita ystäviä ja ne leikkivät ja painivat miltei koko ajan.  Brien uusin temppu on tarttua Kuuraa niskasta ja vetää sitä pitkin lattiaa.  Kuura painaa melkein yhdeksän kiloa.

Brie on jo pudottanut osan hampaistaan ja odotamme hieman pehmeämpiä versioita nykyisten veitsen terävien tilalle.  Kiitos Kuuralle, olemme säästäneet kenkiä, kengän nauhoja ja huonekaluja.  Kuura on loistava lapsenvahti, se kestää Brien rajut hyökkäykset eikä koskaan valita.  Tämän ihanan lastenhoidon takia Brie ei ole vielä pureskellut tai syönyt mitään muuta kuin puruluita, kasvisluita ja sonnin suteja.

Brie on uskomaton pentu.  Sillä on niin paljon ihmisiä, jotka ihailevat sekä rakastavat siitä.  Olen niin kiitollinen Briestä.  Se haasta minut joka päivä ylitsepursuavalla energialla ja pidän siitä.

Brie goes to puppy school / Brie menee pentukouluun

This week Brie has attended her first lesson at a puppy class.  The course takes place at our club in Harjavalta.  For four Mondays we will meet for information how to train our puppies and how to get the puppy interested in wanting to be just with you in spite of all the lovely puppy friends and nice people around it at the same time.

It's going to be a challenge for me, because Brie's got such a loving heart.  Brie likes everyone and I just have to be very inventive to be the best buddy to be with instead of all the more furry friends in class.

After having struggled with Della and her lack of self-confidence, Brie's go-ahead spirit is absolutely great!

The youngest puppy in class is 10 weeks old and the oldest one 7 months.

Luokan nuorin pentu on 10 viikkoa vanha ja vanhin pentu 7 kuukautta.

Maarit Järvinen toimii kouluttajana.

Briellä oli tällä viikolla ensimmäinen pentukurssin oppitunti.  Kurssi järjestetään koirakerhomme kentällä Harjavallassa.  Neljänä maanantaina saamme tietoa, miten opettaa pentua ja miten saaamme sen kiinnostumaan itsestämme vaikka ympärillä pyörii samanaikaisesti muita ihania pentuja ja ihmisiä.

Se tulee olemaan minulle haaste, koska Briellä on niin iso sydän.  Brie pitää kaikista ja minun täytyy olla todella kekseliäs ollakseni sen paras kaveri kaikkien muiden joukossa luokassa.

Taisteltuani Dellan vähäisen itseluottamuksen kanssa Brien itsenäinen ja avoin luonne on aivan huippu!
