23.-24.08. RKS, Rauma

Sweat but fortunately no blood and no tears!  Last weekend was spent in Rauma where the annual District Championship in Agility was arranged this year.  It's meant for the dogs in the highest class, class 3, so it was Pasi's and Taika's battle on Saturday.

The weather for the Championship's day was quite interesting.  The weather gods had really put up a spectacular show of their own which included sunshine, rain, thunder and hailstorms.  No words are needed, just take a look at some of my pictures below...  A short while after the pictures were taken we enjoyed clear blue skies again. 

This kind of weather is not in favour for Taika.  Thunderstorms make her shiver and hyperventilate and Pasi was afraid of having to cancel some of his competitions due to this.  What is positive is that as much Taika fears thunder, Taika's love for agility is so much stronger and just getting her on the track usually means that she forgets the distractions around her.

Pasi and Taika performed a great clean run in the first race of the District Championship.  It was a jumping competition and they came in second.  Unfortunately they lost their possibility of becoming champions in the second race where they had a wrong choice of obstacle almost at the finish line.  A very possible championship title turned into nothing, that is a very unfortunate disqualification.

Della had three competitions on Sunday, a jumping and two agility competitions.  The outcome of the two first races was an annoying disqualification and a sixth place after faults on the A-frame's contact down and when approaching the weave poles.  The last competition of the day turned out to be a hit for Della and me and we made a clean run.  We came in second and Della got the name of judge Jari Suomalainen marked in her book for competitions.

A lovely weekend got a really great ending!  The support Della and I got when we were finishing our race was just awesome!  Thank you!  It's great to share days like this with friends.

Vesisadetta ja hymyileviä hetkiä.

Hikeä, mutta onneksi ei verta ja kyyneleitä.  Viime viikonloppu vietettiin Raumalla missä järjestettiin tämän vuoden agilityn piirimestaruuskisat.  Kisa on tarkoitettu kolmosluokan koirille, joten lauantaina kisasivat Pasi ja Taika.

Sää mestaruuspäivänä oli kovin mielenkiintoinen.  Säiden haltija järjesti oman melkoisen näytelmän joka piti sisällään auringon paistetta, sadetta, ukkosta ja raekuuroja.  Sanoja ei tarvita, katsokaa vain yllä olevia valokuvia...  Hetki kuvanoton jälkeen meillä oli jälleen kirkas sininen taivas.

Tällaiset ilmat eivät ole Taikan suosikkeja.  Ukkonen saa sen tärisemään ja hyperventiloimaan, Pasi pelkäsikin tämän takia joutuvansa perumaan osan kisoista.  Positiivista tässä on se, että niin paljon kuin Taika ukkosta pelkääkin, se rakastaa agilitya niin, että radalle päästyään unohtaa kaikki häiriöt ympäriltään.

Pasin ja Taikan ensimmäinen rata piirimestaruuskisassa oli puhdas rata.  Kisa oli hyppyrata ja he sijoittuivat toiseksi.  Valitettavasti mahdollisuudesta piirimestaruuteen meni toisessa kisassa missä juuri ennen loppua tehtiin väärän esteen suoritus.  Todennäköinen piirimestaruuden sijoitus haihtui ilmaan, todella harmillinen hylky. 

Dellalla oli sunnuntai kolme kisaa, hyppyrata ja kaksi agilityrataa.  Kahden ensimmäisen radan tulos oli ärsyttävästi hylky ja kuudes sija A-esteen kontaktivirheestä ja pujottelun aloitus virheestä.  Päivän viimeinen kisa oli Dellalle ja minulle täysosuma, teimme puhtaan radan.  Sijoituimme toiseksi ja samalla Della sai tuomari Jari Suomalaisen merkinnän kilpailukirjaan.

Mukava viikonloppu sai hienon päätöksen!  Kannustus mitä Della ja minä saimme puhtaan radan loppusuoralla oli aivan mahtavaa!  Kiitos!  On hieno jakaa tällaisia päiviä ystävien kanssa.

16.08. Sheltie Special Show, Tampere

On the schedule Sheltie Special Show in Tampere starring Della and Kuura.  Della competed in the Open Class and Kuura in the class for Junior bitches.  Dr. Jane Hill from the United Kingdom was judging the bitches.  Puppies and males were judged by Päivi Eerola (FIN) and Patricia John (UK).

Tampere welcomed us by lovely weather and lots of shelties!  At the place for the show we also met with three of Kuura's brothers, Aarre (Länsimetsän Syysaamun Aarre), Soni (Länsimetsän Auringonnousu) and Nova (Länsimetsän Hopeahalla) of which Aarre and Soni competed in the Junior Class for males.  Kuura's brothers are all handsome youngsters and with the same great temper as Kuura.

Both Kuura and her two brothers were judged VG (Very Good).  Pasi was very satisfied with Kuura's behaviour in front of the judge and when moving in the ring.  No barking or jumping, just Kuura being a lady.

Kuura's judgement:

"Nicely balanced.  Good front angulations.  Would prefer more refinement in head and a size smaller."

Della surprised me again by being quite relaxed on the table while the judge examined her.  Della did not step aside as usual, just let Jane Hill thoroughly touch her from head to tail.  I am so proud of my dog and how much she has developed during the last six months.  Della was also judged with VG (Very Good) but for me it was almost as good as EXC (Excellent) this time, becaue it felt great to hear Dr. Jane Hill say that I have a dog in good shape.  That Della moves like a horse (a Hackney) in front is something new but as I have said before; attending a show is so much more difficult than competing in agility...

Della's judgement:

"In good condition.  Well constructed.  Would like a bit more length of neck.  Pleasing head.  Neat ears.  Would prefer better eye shape.  Hackney front movement."

Being at a Special Show I had wished for a bit more thorough reports of both Kuura and Della.  Last time in Kiljava the judgement paper was full of writing.  

Congratulations to Kuura's brothers, Aarre and Soni, which were placed 3rd and 4th in their class.  Next time we hope to see Nova in the ring too.  Nova is too handsome to be left out of the competition.

Shetlanninlammaskoirien Erikoisnäyttely 2014.

Della ja Kuura pääosissa Tampereen Shelttien Erikoisnäyttelyssä.  Della osallistui narttujen avoimeen luokkaan ja Kuura junioriluokkaan.  Narttujen tuomarina toimi Dr. Jane Hill Englannista.  Pennut tuomaroi Päivi Eerola Suomesta ja urokset Patricia John Englannista.

Tampere otti meidät vastaan kauniilla säällä ja suurella määrällä shelttejä.  Paikalla oli myös kolme Kuuran veljeä, Aarre (Länsimetsän Syysaamun Aarre), Soni (Länsimetsän Auringonnousu) ja Nova (Länsimetsän Hopeahalla) joista Aarre ja Soni osallistuivat urosten junioriluokkaan.  Kuuran veljet ovat komeita nuorukaisia joilla on samanlainen ihana luonne kuin Kuurallakin.

Niin Kuura kuin veljetkin saivat yhtäläiset arvostelut tuomareilta eli EH (Erittäin Hyvä).  Pasi oli erittäin tyytyväinen Kuuran käyttäytymisen tuomarin edessä ja kehässä liikumisen.  Ei haukkumista eikä hyppimistä, Kuura oli todellinen leidi.

Kuuran arvostelu:

"Hyvin tasapainonen.  Hyvät etukulmaukset.  Pää saisi olla jalompi ja koira saisi olla koolta pienempi."

Della yllätti minut jälleen olemalla melko rento tuomarin tutkiessa häntä pöydällä.  Della ei väistänyt vaan antoi Jane Hillin tutkia sen päästä häntään.  Olen niin ylpeä miten koirani on kehittynyt viimeisten kuuden kuukauden aikana.  Della sai myös arvostelun EH (Erittäin Hyvä), mutta minulle se oli tällä kerta enemmän kuin ERI (Erinomainen) koska tuomari Jane Hill sanoi koirani olevan hyvässä kunnossa.  Se, että koirani liikkui etuosastaan kuin hevonen (Hackney = brittiläinen lämminverinen hevonen) oli minulle uutta, mutta kuten olen aikaisemmin sanonut; näyttelyyn osallistuminen on paljon vaikeampaa kuin agility...

Dellan arvostelu:

"Hyvässä kunnossa.  Hyvät rakenteet.  Saisi olla kaulastaan pidempi.  Miellyttävä pää.  Kauniit korvat.  Silmien muoto voisi olla parempi.  Liikkuu etupäästä kuin Hackney."

Osallistuessani erikoisnäyttelyyn olisin odottanut perusteellisempaa arvostelua sekä Dellalle että Kuuralle. Viime kerralla Kiljavalla arvostelupaperi oli täyteen kirjoitettu.

Onnittelut Kuuran veljille, Aarre ja Soni, jotka olivat JUN3 ja JUN4.  Ensi kerralla toivomme näkevämme myös Novan kehässä.  Nova on liian komea jätettäväksi kehän ulkopuolelle.

09.-10.08. VAS, Vaasa

Last weekend we were competing in Vaasa.  We had a great time with competitions by the sea, lots of good friends and once again - top weather.  We had a few showers of light rain on both Saturday and Sunday, but it didn't really help.  Vaasa stayed hot!

Pasi and I had four competitions each with Taika and Della, all agility competitions.  The judge for the weekend was Petteri Kerminen, who had planned funny, fast and challenging tracks.  I struggled with weave pole problems and not being in the right place at the right time, but I'm getting there.  Della's speed was the very best, I just have to move better to catch up with my dog so I can guide her more properly.  Though my best result during the weekend was a 6th place, I'm very satisfied.  I'm having such fun on the track nowadays!  And, my hunger for making a clean run just keeps growing...

Pasi and Taika came in 4th after three disqualifications, two on Saturday and one on Sunday.  Their first competition on Sunday went very well, but they were punished when Taika jumped off the see-saw too early.  It was a fault that really annoyed, because without it Taika would have come in second and at the same Taika would have got the final certificate for becoming a champion of agility too.  But, there's always if...

On Sunday I was very lucky to meet with my beloved Pinja's brother and Taika's father, Pico.  Pico turned 13 about a month ago and is still going strong.  Thank you, Carina, for bringing him!  It meant a lot to me.

Viime viikonloppuna olimme kisaamassa Vaasassa.  Meillä oli kisoissa tosi hauskaa, meren rannalla, paljon hyviä ystäviä ja jälleen kerran - huippu hieno sää.  Oli vain muutama kevyt sadekuuro sekä lauantaina että sunnuntaina, mutta ne eivät juuri auttaneet.  Vaasa pysyi kuumana!

Pasilla ja minulla oli neljä kisaa Taikan ja Dellan kanssa, kaikki agility kisoja.  Viikonlopun tuomarina toimi Petteri Kerminen, hän oli suunnittellut hauskoja, nopeita ja haasteellisia ratoja.  Minä taistelin keppiongelmien ja ajoitusten kanssa, mutta olen pikkuhiljaa voiton puolella.  Dellan vauhti oli parasta, minun täytyy vain liikkua paremmin pystyäkseni ohjaamaan koiraani kunnolla.  Vaikka viikonlopun paras sijoitukseni oli vain 6. sija, olen erittäin tyytyväinen.  Minulla on nyt todella hauskaa radalla!  Ja, nälkä puhtaan radan saavuttamiseksi kasvaa koko ajan...

Pasi ja Taika sijoittuivat neljänneksi kolmen hylyn jälkeen, kaksi lauantaina yksi sunnuntaina.  Sunnuntain ensimmäinen kisa meni todella hyvin, mutta Taika sai viisi virhepistettä keinulta hypätessään siltä liian aikaisin.  Se oli todella ärsyttävä virhe, koska ilman sitä Taika olisi todennäköisesti sijoittunut toiseksi ja olisi samalla saanut agilitysertin ja myös valiotittelin.  Mutta, se on aina se jos...

Sunnuntaina minulla oli ilo tavata rakkaan Pinjani veli ja Taikan isä, Pico.  Pico täytti 13 noin kuukausi sitten ja voi edelleen hyvin.  Kiitos Carina, että sain tavata hänet!  Se merkitsi minulle paljon.

02.08. WeCA, Pori

Last Saturday we went to Pori.  WeCA (West Coast Agility Team) had two agility competitions, competition A and B, on the schedule for all classes.  The B competition also was a qualification trial for the finals of the non-official championships for Shetland Sheepdogs and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.  The championship competitions were to take place after the official competitions of the day.

To get to the finals in class 1 and in class 2, you had to be among the three best placed shelties in each class.  In class 3 the fifteen best placed shelties got automatically tickets for the finals.  The only condition in every class was that the competitor did not exceed 25 faults in competition B.  In my opinion the association for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels had much nicer rules, because all competitors that got an approved result from the B competition had the right to compete in the finals.  OK!  I admit, I'm a bit annoyed, because I had such a great race with Della and we were the first competitors to be left out of the finals.  We came in 4th among the shelties competing in class 2...  I just hate coming in fourth!

The world won't come tumbling down because of this.  On the contrary!  I am so satisfied with our competitions this time though I - once again! - distracted my lovely dog in the weave poles!  It was the one and only mistake we made, but it's enough for not succeeding better this time.  Della's speed was just great and my own handling felt very good.  I had such fun and Della was alert.  I really think we are on the right track right now and for once I can say that our coming in 7th (time -8.17 sec / 3.69 m/sec) and 11th (time -5.23 / 3.54 m/sec) are facts that do not quite tell the truth about our performances.  They were so much better than our final placings.

Pasi had difficulties in putting up with the continuing hot weather and he did not get his handling to work as well as in Rauma a few weeks ago.  Taika was eager as usual but in combination with the heat wave, it can be just too much some times...  The A competition ended up in a disqualification and in the B competition they came in 18th with 3 faults and some overtime.  It meant that they were among the shelties that were qualified for the finals later on.  Unfortunately Taika performed one of the obstacles from the wrong side in the finals and they passed the finish line as disqualified.

Viime lauantaina kävimme Porissa.  WeCA:lla (West Coast Agility Team) oli kaksi agilitykisaa, kisa A ja B, kaikille luokille.  B-kisa oli samalla karsintarata shetlanninlammaskoirien ja cavalierien rotumestaruuskisaan.  Epävirallinen finaalirata järjestettiin virallisten starttien jälkeen.

Ykkös- ja kakkosluokista pääsi molemmista finaaliin kolme parasta shelttiä.  Kolmosluokasta pääsi automaattisesti viisitoista parasta shelttiä.  Ainoana ehtona jokaisessa luokassa oli, ettei koirakko ylittänyt 25 virhepistettä.  Minun mielestäni Cavalieriyhdistyksellä oli paljon mukavammat säännöt, kaikki B-kisassa tuloksen tehneet pääsivät finaalin.  OK! Myönnän, että ärsytti, koska tein Dellan kanssa hyvän suorituksen ja olimme ensimmäinen pari joka jäi finaalin ulkopuolella.  Sijoituimme neljänneksi 2-luokassa shelteistä...  Inhoan niin neljättä sijaa!

Maailmaa ei kuitenkaan tähän kaadu.  Päinvastoin!  Olen niin tyytyväinen meidän kisoihin, vaikka tein sen taas(!) eli häiritsin ihanaa Dellaa pujottelussa!  Se olikin meidän ainoa virheemme molemmilla radoilla, mutta riittävästi ettemme menestyneet tällä kertaa paremmin.  Dellan vauhti oli hyvä ja oma ohjaus tuntui hyvältä.  Minulla oli hauskaa ja Della oli kuulolla.  Olen varma, että olemme nyt oikeilla jäljillä ja kerrankin voin sanoa, että sijoittumisemme 7. sijalle (aika -8.17 s / 3.69 m/s) ja 11. sijalle (aika -5,23 / 3.54 m/s) ei aivan kerro koko totuutta.  Suorituksemme olivat niin paljon paremmat kuin sijoitukset kertovat.

Pasilla oli vaikeuksia kovassa helteessä saada ohjaus toimimaan samalla tavalla kuin muutama viikkoa sitten Raumalla.  Taikalla oli innokas kuten aina, mutta yhdessä kuumuuden kanssa se joskus voi myös mennä vähän yli...  A-kisa päättyi hylkyyn ja B-kisassa he sijoittuivat sijalle 18. viidellätoista virhepisteellä ja yliajalla.  Se tarkoitti kuitenkin, että he olivat sheltien finaalissa mukana.  Valitettavasti Taika suoritti finaalissa yhden esteen väärään suuntaan ja lopputulos oli hylky.

Kuura got wet / Kuura kastui

We've had an ongoing heat wave for about two weeks by now.  In fifty years the temperatures have not reached these numbers we are experiencing now and every day you can read about new heat records all over Finland in the newspapers.

There's no need to cut the lawn, everything is just turning more and more yellow in our garden, the lawn is dry and makes funny noises when being stepped on.  Nature is shouting for water.  We've had some showers of rain but they've been very local.  The nights are tropical and they don't bring much comfort.  This is no time for rushing things...

We had the pleasure to visit our very good friend Anne's cottage during last weekend.  The cottage is beautifully situated by the water and there's no doubt that it was the right place to be on a hot day like yesterday.  Anne's shelties Sissi and Katla have learnt to swim quite recently and Sissi has become a real water beast.  Sissi does not yet have the courage to jump from the jetty into the water by herself so she "shouts" at Anne to take her for a swim.  A sheltie is a real pro when it comes to get what it wants.

Of our dogs Kuura was very interested in Sissi's water activities and I had warned Pasi before our trip to Anne, that if any of our dogs was to become wet by mistake - it was going to be Kuura...  Della and Taika watched everything from a safe distance but Kuura ran up and down the jetty barking at us swimmers.  Yes, I know, it had to be a really hot day for getting me into the water for a swim too!  It's something that doesn't happen every summer...

Suddenly the barking Kuura lost her balance and she dropped into the water.  There she was for only a few seconds, wondering and then trying to get back up on the jetty where Anne gave her a helping hand.  Kuura did not panic at all, she just shook the water from her coat giving her furry friends a good taste of her diving and then she ran to the lawn, where she rolled like she's been attacked by ants or something like that.  What a show!  After that Kuura was back down on the jetty again - this time so much wiser and not afraid at all.

Bath cowards and water beasts enjoying a hot summer's day.

Vesipelkurit ja vesipedot nauttimassa kuumasta kesäpäivästä.

Meillä on helleaalto jota on kestänyt jo toista viikkoa.  Viiteenkymmeneen vuoteen ei lämpötila ole ollut tällaisissa lukemissa ja joka päivä saamme lukea lehdistä uusista lämpöennätyksistä.

Nurmikkoa ei tarvitse leikata, kaikki muuttuu puutarhassamme vain keltaisemmaksi, ruoho on kuivaa ja kuullosta hassulta siihen astuttaessa.  Luonto huutaa vettä.  Meillä on ollut vain muutamia paikallisia sadekuuroja.  Yöt ovat trooppisia, eivätkä tuo paljon helpostusta.  Nyt pitää vain ottaa rauhallisesti...

Viime viikonloppuna kävimme miellyttävällä vierailulla hyvän ystävämme Annen mökillä.  Mökki sijaitsee kauniilla paikalla joen rannalla ja ei ollut epäilystäkään, etteikö se oli oikea paikka olla sellaisena kuumana päivänä kuten eilen.  Annen sheltit Sissi ja Katla ovat äskettäin oppineet uimaan ja Sissistä on tullut oikea vesipeto.  Sissi ei uskalla vielä hypätä laiturilta veteen, mutta se huutaa Annelle kun Annen pitäisi viedä se uimaan.  Sheltti kyllä osaa näyttää kun haluaa jotain!

Meidän koirista Kuura oli erittäin kiinnostunut Sissin vesileikeistä ja olinkin varoittanut Pasia, että jos joku koiristamme kastuu vahingossa, se olisi Kuura...  Della ja Taika pitivät hyvää etäisyyttä, mutta Kuura juoksi edestakaisin laiturilla haukkuen meitä uimareita.  Tosiaan, täytyy olla todella kuuma, että minä päätän uida!  Sitä ei tapahdu joka kesä...

Yllättäen haukkuva Kuura menetti tasapainonsa ja sukelsi veteen.  Siellä se oli muutaman sekunnin ihmetellen ja yritti sitten päästä takaisin laiturille jonne Anne sen auttoi.  Kuura ei turhia pelästynyt, se vain puristeli turkkinsa antaen toisille karvakavereilleen vähän makua sukelluksestaan ja juoksi nurmikolle.  Siellä se kieriskeli kuin muurahaiset olisi hyökänneet sen kimppuun.  Mikä show!  Sen jälkeen Kuura juoksi takaisin laiturille - tällä kertaa paljon viisaampana, eikä lainkaan pelokkaana.

19.-20.07. AgiPitsi, Rauma

How I envy Pasi.  He is such a skillful agility handler.  He sees solutions and he's fast.  When he's successful in the start with Taika - the dog that's not waiting... - it's most likely he will reach a top position in the competition.  Taika's still a rocket on the track though she is turning nine next September.  Taika just loves agility!

Last weekend in Rauma Pasi and Taika nailed three courses out of six.  Two of their three competitions on Saturday were not only clean runs.  They also opened Taika's Finnish Championship account for 2015, where seven clean runs are needed including the important result of a double clean run.  The double clean run is now taken care of!  Wau! 

On Sunday they continued their successful tour and instead of coming in 7th as they did twice on Saturday, they came in second in the jumping competition.  It's a pleasure to watch when the connection between the handler and his dog is working like this, especially when Taika is not the easiest dog to manage on the track.  Taika is like a hot stone and the smallest mistake from the handler will cost.  Taika doesn't ask twice, Taika runs and performs...

If you had a chance to see Taika at home, you won't believe it's the same dog.  Our "hot stone" is calm as a cucumber and besides eating she just loves to sleep...

Della and I had five competitions during the weekend and I have to be satisfied with my little black girl, because we got two results!  The Kokkola trip was just a beginning and I hope I will be able to improve our performances a little every time now.  Gaining results, which are just not disqualifications, make me grow as a handler and with a better self-confidence I also dare to be a much more brave handler, who also trusts in Della.  It was so close this time that I had got  two very good clean runs with Della on Saturday, but I also know we will still need some more time before we're ready for Class 3. 

In our first competition on Saturday I assured a tunnel too much, which made me all too late to catch up with Della and I lost a lot of valuable time.  The manoeuvre cost me a clean run and crossing the finish line we came in 3rd with a very annoying overtime of 0,06 sec...  In the second competition I succeeded again!  Now I distracted my lovely dog at the entry of the weave poles - twice(!) - and we came in 6th, this time with a nice time though, -2,50 sec.  There were no clean runs in this competition...

Thank you Rauman Käyttö- ja Seurakoirat ry for a great weekend!  Our team has enjoyed every minute of it.

Miten kadehdinkaan Pasia.  Hän on niin taitava agility-ohjaaja: hän näkee ratkaisuja ja on nopea.  Kun hän menestyy startissa Taikan - koiran, joka ei odota... - kanssa, hän mitä luultavimmin saa huippusijan kisassa.  Taika on edelleen kuin raketti radalla, vaikka täyttääkin jo yhdeksän ensi syyskuussa.  Taika rakastaa agilityä!

Viime viikonloppuna Raumalla Pasi ja Taika onnistuivat kolmella radalla kuudesta.  Kaksi kolmesta kisasta lauantaina eivät olleet vain puhtaita ratoja, vaan avasivat myös Taikan suomenmestaruustilin vuodelle 2015, johon tarvitaan seitsemän puhdasta rataa, joihin sisältyy tärkeä saavutus: tuplanollat.  Se on nyt hoidettu! Vautsi!

Sunnuntaina he jatkoivat onnistunutta kisaansa, ja sen sijaan että olisivat tulleet seitsemänsiksi kuten kahdesti lauantaina, he tulivat toiseksi hyppyradan kisassa.  On nautinto katsoa kun koiran ja ohjaajan välinen side toimii näin, varsinkin kun Taika ei ole helpoin hallittava radalla.  Taika on kuin kuuma kivi ja pieninkin virhe ohjaajalta voi maksaa.  Taika ei kysele, Taika vain juoksee ja tekee...

Jos teillä olisi mahdollisuus nähdä Taika kotona, ette uskoisi sitä samaksi koiraksi.  "Kuuma kivemme" on tyyni kuin viilipytty ja syömisen lisäksi Taika rakastaa nukkumista...

Della ja minä osallistuimme viiteen kisaan viikonlopun aikana ja minun täytyy olla tyytyväinen pieneen mustaan tyttööni, koska saimme kaksi sijoitusta!  Kokkolan-matka oli vain alkua ja toivon, että voin parantaa esityksiämme hieman joka kerta.  Sijoitusten saaminen, ei vain hylkäysten, auttaa minua kasvaamaan ohjaajana ja paremmalla itseluottamuksella uskallan olla paljon rohkeampi ja luottaa Dellaan.  Tällä kertaa oli lähellä että olisin saanut kaksi erittäin hyvää puhdasta rataa Dellan kanssa lauantaina, mutta tiedän myös että tarvitsemme vielä aikaa ennen kuin olemme valmiita kolmosluokkaan.

Ensimmäisessä kisassamme lauantaina varmistelin putkea liikaa, ja sen takia olin liian myöhässä saadakseni Dellan kiinni, mikä vei arvokasta aikaa.  Liike vei meiltä puhtaan radan ja ylitimme maaliviivan kolmantena; ärsyttävästi 0,06 sekuntia yliajalla.  Toisessa kisassa onnistuin taas!  Sillä kertaa häiritsin koiraani keppien sisämenossa - kahdesti(!) - ja tulimme kuudensiksi, tällä kertaa tosin mukavalla ajalla -2,50 sekuntia.  Siinä kisassa ei tullut puhtaita ratoja...

AgiRotu & KLAG 2014

Our life is just like a giant candy bag at the moment filled with so many good things.  Therefore I've had some problems with keeping our team's blog updated.  Still I only have 24 hours per day to my disposal.  How I wish I had a lot more...

On Sunday, July 6th, we participated for the first time ever in the very popular annual agility event called AgiRotu.  The AgiRotu-weekend is filled with both official and non-official agility competitions and fun is the keyword.  This year the dog club of Janakkala arranged it and besides great agility we also enjoyed lovely weather.

Pasi competed with Taika in the class for senior handlers with small dogs, where 38 handlers were battling for the the non-official Finnish Championship for Seniors.  They had a good run, but just before the finish line Pasi made Taika chose the wrong obstacle so they had an unfortunate "game over".

The highlight of the day was the competition for the best dressed team.  Our very good friend Anne had decided that our sheltie team was to participate in this traditional AgiRotu-competition and Pasi, our team leader, had a clear vision of how we should dress up.  Our theme for the day was The Blues Brothers or as it turned out with three ladies in the team - The Blues Sisters and The Jake.  Our team consisted of Janita and Sidi, Anne and Sissi, myself and Della and Pasi and Taika.  We did not win any prizes but it was fun to participate!

The weekend ended with the popular team competitions for both beginners and competing dogs.  Our team took part in the competition for competing dogs.  There were 49 teams in the group for small dogs and we ended up being on the 24th place when all the teams had made their performances and we were very pleased by that.

Elämämme on juuri nyt kuin suuri karkkipussi täynnä hyviä asioita.  Minulla on tuon takia ollut vaikeuksia pitää blogiamme ajantasalla.  Minulla on vieläkin vain 24 tuntia vuorokaudessa.  Miten toivonkaan, että olisi paljon enemmän...

Sunnuntaina 6. heinäkuuta osallistuimme ensimmäistä kertaa suosittuun agility tapahtumaan AgiRotuun.  AgiRotu-viikonloppu on täynnä virallisia ja epävirallisia agilitykisoja ja avainsana on hauskanpito.  Tänä vuonna tapahtuman järjesti Janakkalan koirakerho ja loistavan agilityn lisäksi saimme nauttia myös ihanasta säästä.  

Pasi osallistui Taikan kanssa miniluokan seniorikisaan jossa 38 ohjaajaa kisasi epävirallisesta Suomen Seniorimestaruudesta.  Pasi ja Taika tekivät hyvän radan, mutta valitettavasti Pasi ohjasi Taikan väärälle esteelle juuri ennen loppua ja tuloksena oli hylkäys.

Päivän kohokohta oli pukukisa.  Hyvä ystävämme Anne oli päättänyt, että shelttiryhmämme osallistuisi tähän perinteiseen AgiRotu-pukukisaan ja joukkueen johtajalla Pasilla oli valmis näkemys miten tultaisiin pukeutumaan.  Meidän teemana oli Blues Brothers tai kuten se muuttui kun mukana oli kolme naista - The Blues Sisters and The Jake.  Joukkueessa oli Janita ja Sidi, Anne ja Sissi, minä ja Della sekä Pasi ja Taika.  Emme sijoittuneet palkinnoille, mutta oli hauskaa osallistua!

Viikonloppu päättyi suosittuun joukkuekisaan sekä aloitteville koirille että kisaaville koirille.  Me osallistuimme kisaavien koirien joukkuekisaan.  Minikoirien joukkueita oli 49 ja meidän lopullinen sijoituksemme oli 24. sija mihin olemme tyytyväisiä.

On Friday, July 11th, we went to Kokkola for the KLAG-weekend.  Again we had a weekend with agility and competitions on the schedule, this time for three days!  Kokkola is such a nice place to be and it's just great to meet with agility friends from all over Finland.

Pasi and I had six competitions each with Taika and Della but unfortunately the results were everything but great.  Pasi and Taika were placed 30th of 47 competitors on Saturday, all their other runs ended up in disqualifications.  Della's weekend was not much better though I think my dog is working better and better all the time.  When Della works well, I am late - but, it's quite a nice problem.  I don't know when I last got a result in a competition with Della.  This year has just brought disqualifications, nothing else.  Therefore, I'm so glad I was placed 5th with Della in our last competition on Sunday evening.  Della got a fault at the weave poles and - of course - afterwards it's a bit annoying...  The human being is such a greedy animal!

Kaunis Kokkola ja ihanat muistot.

Perjantaina 11. heinäkuuta matkustimme Kokkolaan KLAGin viikonloppuun.  Viikonlopulle oli jälleen tiedossa agilitya, tällä kertaa kolmena päivänä!  Kokkola on hieno paikka ja aina hieno tavata agility-ystäviä ympäri Suomea.

Pasilla ja minulla oli Taikan ja Dellan molemmilla kuusi kisaa, mutta valitettavasti tulokset olivat kaikkea muuta kuin loistavia.  Pasi ja Taika sijoittuivat lauantaina sijalle 30. kun kisaajia oli 47, muut viikonlopun kisat päättyivät hylkyyn.  Dellan viikonloppu ei ollut paljon parempi vaikka koirani toimii mielestäni paremmin kerta kerran jälkeen.  Kun Della toimii hyvin, olen myöhässä - mutta, se on mukava ongelma.  En tiedä koska olemme viimeiksi saaneet tuloksen kisoissa Dellan kanssa.  Tämän vuoden kisat ovat päättyneet vain hylkyihin, ei mitään muuta.  Siksi olinkin iloinen, kun sunnuntain viimeisessä kisassa saavutimme 5. sijan.  Della sai virheen pujottelusta ja tietenkin näin jälkkenpäin se harmittaa...  Ihminen on niin ahne eläin!
